So, I've never knitted anything for myself before now. I realize this trend runs rampant among us knitters, and last summer I was ordered (by my wonderful husband) to do something about it!
For our wooliversary, Steve gave me a gift certificate to my LYS. He also instructed me to buy yarn to make myself something. Oh, the pressure! Initially, I planned to buy a little something for me to maybe make a hat, and use the rest of the certificate to get yarn for gift projects. Then, it happened. I fell in love...
This gorgeous yarn is Prism by Colinette, and the colourway is "popsicle." It's a wool/cotton twist, so it is soft and warm... oh, and so very yummy!
Since this project was for myself, I let it hang around on the rocker in my bedroom most of the time. I usually worked on it, one row at a time, while I was rocking Noah to sleep. Every time I wear it, I get that extra warm feeling of holding this little sleepy boy, (and keeping him warm with a WIP;-). The few times I brought outside, I had um, "help," so this took (embarrassingly) about a year to finish.
The pattern is the simple yet effective shawl by Laura Chau. It is both easy and interesting, and can be found for free on her blog here. (Thank you Laura:-)
But now it's finally finished, just as this season is starting to really feel like fall, and I just love it!

It's GORGEOUS Michelle!
ReplyDeleteYour blog looks so pretty too! xo
Thank you Nicole:-)
ReplyDeleteWell done! Finishing a project is such an achievement at any time...but when it's something for you it's particularly difficult to 'make the time'. It looks so cozy (and just in time for your autumn too.
ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely. Reminds me why I wish I could knit :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Cate & Kayte:-)
ReplyDeleteLooks great Michelle and good on you for making something for yourself. I think I have only been brave enough to make myself a little coin purse. Must inspire myself to pick up a bigger and better project just for me this winter. I have a cushion cover waiting on the needles from last winter and it is almost done. I should try to remember to take it to all these hockey games we seem to be at lately. And thanks so much for commenting on my blog. It really is lovely to get feedback!
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful and what a great hubby to suggest such a project! Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Stacey & Michelle (I'm wearing it right now:-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's the first of many projects you knit just for you. :)
It is wonderful! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amber & Mary Beth!!
