Last year, when I was fortunate enough to meet the lovely and inspiring Amanda (aka Soulemama) and take home her wonderful book, Handmade Home, I knew this was one of the projects that I would make.
The Beach Blanket to Go has been waiting for just the right vintage fabrics to appear, and finally they did, in the form of sheets & pillowcases for the top...
And this fantastic turquoise colored matelasse bedspread that I remembered having as a child (and finally found in my mother's basement being used as a drop cloth-- oh the shame!)
I rescued the blanket, and was inspired to finally cut into the lovely, buttery soft linens to make the top. On my thrifty adventures, along with the fabric, I ended up with a huge assortment of bias tapes, including this 8-yard-long canary yellow piece that I used for the binding & ties.
Noah was gracious enough to accompany me on an impromptu picnic in our back yard this beautiful fall day, to try it out & model it for me...
I tried to get a shot of us cuddled on the blanket by holding my camera above me. I didn't actually get much of the blanket ( if you look really close, you can see the tiniest bit of the yellow ties behind his sweet head, it still counts as a project picture, right;-) It's that face though, those eyes looking up at me the way he does just before he dozes off...I can't help but love this photo.
I'm looking forward to sharing many, many adventures, meals, snacks, and best of all cuddles with my favorite boys on this blanket!

I love the blanket - it's so gorgeous. And I love that it's thrifted and full of stories (know and unknown) even more.
ReplyDeleteThank you Amber:-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blanket. That last pictures a winner too. I'm always trying to capture those expressions. They're the ones you want to remember forever.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It is so cute and looks super comfy.
ReplyDeleteGreat blanket! it is really a great project to use up all the wonderful fabric that one has hanging around. So, I haven't been on-line much lately but I will be sure to keep up with your life. I've missed you.

The blanket turned out beautifully and how wonderful to have such a special find from childhood!
ReplyDeleteI agree the snuggle picture definitely counts -- after all that is exactly what the blanket is perfect for!
This is my first visit to your blog -- it is so sweet!
