Our sweet Noah is just about ready to move into his "big boy bed" in Joshua's room. He's still with us most of the night, but I think once we get his bed set up, he'll be so excited that he'll sleep there. Maybe even for longer than 3 hours at a time...
To celebrate this soon to be event, I decided to make him a quilt. I've done some quilting in the past, all by hand, learning from my Memere in Canada. However, I've realized that if I want to make quilts for my children while they are still children, I'm going to have to use the machine -- at least for piecing the top.
So here it is, Noah's quilt top...
The machine piecing went pretty well, but since his bed is a small toddler bed, I decided to hand quilt it. It is taking a lot longer than I realized it would, not so much because of the actual quilting, but because of the pulling it out, putting it away that must come with a monkey who really likes to help;-)
Joshua has already ordered his, the "Lucky Lindy" airplane pattern. Since his will need to be much larger, I'm going to have to learn to machine quilt. I think I'll use that vintage White treadle machine. Many people have told me that using that would be much easier that my little electric one for this purpose. First things first though... back to the hoop:-)

You're very clever!! It looks great. There's nothing like setting up their space just for them to really encourage them to use it!! Good luck with getting that sleep back :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Cate! It's funny, it's been so long since I've had a full night's sleep that I don't think my body remembers how... hopefully this will help us find out ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy grandson, Ari, moved into a big boy's bed in August and the quilt I made for his mama has gone with him...he insists on it.
ReplyDeleteQuilts are made of love and this one is a beautiful example. xoxo
What a beautiful quilt. I'm sure he's going to be very excited about his "big boy bed."
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like getting your sleep back. But it's always a little bitter sweet when they move into their own space. You've come up with a great way to celebrate that.
Wow, you've done a great job! So much work but it's all worth it! xo Kyndale
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm keeping my fingers crossed for longer stretches of sleep for Noah. My 2-year-old is also a 3-hours-at-a-stretch sleeper. And all that I can say about it is ... YAWN!!
Thank you so much ladies!
ReplyDeleteAnd Susan, Ari is blessed to have such a special heirloom:-)
Thanks Amber...yawn, yawn right back at ya;-)
The quilt is awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh wow -- what an big project! And on such little sleep!
ReplyDeleteI too get the three -- maybe four -- hours at a time sleep in this house. So I'm sticking to smaller projects.
What a special quilt that will mark such an special transition. Mommy's special comfort won't be far...even in the big boy bed!
That is a beautiful quilt! We should craft together sometime :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, that quilt is so lovely. Hope the transition is smooth and full of sleep!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is beautiful!!!
